Measure Yourself

 Measuring Yourself for a Kilt

Our shop assistants will be happy to measure you up for your perfect kilt outfit, but if you'd like to give it a go yourself, or can't make it into one of our shops before your event, this guide will help you get the measurements we need .Please give all measurements in inches.

1. Chest Measurement

Take a measuring tape and place it round the widest part of your chest with your arms by your side, allow two fingers of clearance for comfort and this will give you your chest size.

2. Waist Measurement

This is your kilt waist and NOT your trouser waist: take the tape and place it around your waist at the belly button level and this will give you the kilt waist size. Make sure the tape is firm enough to gently grip your waist - not too much, or the kilt will be too small.

3. Height

All sizes are connected to your height so make sure you give us your EXACT height so we can calculate your ideal kilt length.

4. Shoe Size

Just give your normal shoe size, there is no need to add sizes on for thicker socks.

5. Collar

Again just your normal size, if you need to use the tape just leave enough room for comfort.

6. Kilt Length

This is the size most people get wrong, so to help we ask for your height, and if you give us your inside leg measurement this can also help.

If you'd like to measure this yourself then place a trouser belt around your waist at the belly button level, kneel down on the floor with your back straight and then measure from the top of the belt to the floor, subtract 1 inch and this will give you your exact kilt length.

Rough Guidelines for height and kilt length:

  • 5ft 5in and under - 22 inches

  • 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in - 23 inches

  • 5ft 9in to 5ft 11in - 24 inches

  • 6ft to 6ft 2in - 25 inches

  • 6ft 3in and over - 26 inches

It is much easier if you can find yourself an assistant to help with self measurement, and remember all the sizes should fit together so if anything is looking unusual we would always change it for you.
